Minecraft fans are worried about Mojang abandoning the combat update tested in 2020
Minecraft has a vast number of activities for players. So, a game with so many features and mechanics also requires several updates that improve various aspects. This is quite difficult as releasing patches that improve everything isn't realistic. Often, the developers plan for something but end up working on something else.
Minecraft player and Redditor Gabz_sheldreak asked the game’s community a question about the experimental snapshots released in 2020 improving the combat experience.
They mentioned how Jeb, one of the game's main developers, was actively seeking feedback about the combat system. Yet, after four years, it seems that Mojang has abandoned its plans to bring a combat update.
RenRazza mentioned those test snapshots were just tests, and there was no confirmation that they would ever become a part of the official update. According to them, the studio may have realized they have better things to focus on.
Another user, ikkju, said these tests were done right before the cave update, so it seems the developers focused on it rather than the combat update.
Other users also had similar answers. Lzinger said they think it was more of a side project for Jeb, and he will work on it when he has an idea. SilverFlight01 said those snapshots were experimental, which doesn't guarantee they were even considered to be added to the game. The user emphasized that Minecraft might get a combat update, but not now.
BearShots wrote a lengthy answer explaining the situation. They said Jeb had to put the idea of combat update on hold to focus on the Caves & Cliffs update, but mentioned that he didn’t forget about it. It’s just that he hasn’t had a chance to work on it.
The user then mentioned how Mojang would have to come up with a combat update that builds upon the combat system of Minecraft 1.8 as it is still quite popular with most of the PvP servers using it. A great combat update would see a resurgence of Minecraft PvP games.
Frequent updates for Minecraft
Recently, Mojang announced it will change the game's update delivery structure. Instead of working on one major update every year, the developers will focus on adding smaller features more frequently. This is great news for players as they get to try out more new things, and it's great for the developers as they can add more content and get feedback from the community.
The Creaking mob and the pale garden biome will soon come to the game, and the developers will tweak the final versions of these additions to improve them. Perhaps the next big thing they work on is a combat update.
