Minecraft Live 2024 summary: Recap of all features, announcements, and more
Minecraft Live 2024 began on September 28, 2024, and Mojang Studios had plenty of new announcements and details for players to appreciate going forward. All the while, Mojang spent plenty of time looking back as part of the 15th anniversary of its landmark sandbox game. The event may have only been brief, but there was no lack of news for players and fans to digest.
With that in mind, it's worth taking a look at and recapping the news made by Mojang during Minecraft Live 2024 and what excitement players can expect from the game as well as the franchise as a whole.
Recapping the new features, announcements, and more from Minecraft Live 2024
Two new Game Drops are announced - Bundles of Bravery and the Pale Garden Drop
As website leaks hinted at earlier in the week, Minecraft Live 2024 has confirmed the arrival of two new game drops set to arrive in the coming months: Bundles of Bravery and the Pale Garden game drop. Bundles of Bravery will be the first game drop, and bundles will be introduced as a non-experimental feature in vanilla while also bringing the much-heralded Hardcore Mode to Bedrock Edition.
There's also the Pale Garden drop, a game drop introducing a new Pale Garden biome filled with pale oak wood and pale moss. However, the pale oak trees can also contain Creaking Heart blocks, which will spawn the new mob known as The Creaking.
Both of the game drops, according to Minecraft Live 2024, are slated to debut in vanilla Java and Bedrock Edition over the next few months. However, the game drops will shortly be made available via Java snapshots and Bedrock previews, so players should keep their eyes out to enjoy these new experimental snapshots/previews to get first-hand experience with the content.
Another quick look at A Minecraft Movie
A Minecraft Movie is slated to hit theaters on April 4, 2025, and Minecraft Live dove a little deeper into the production side of things while also sharing a short clip of the film. Director Jared Hess explained the balance of providing a new look to Mojang's sandbox world on the Silver Screen while still aiming to keep the focus on the spirit and wonderment that Minecraft is so well-known for.
A short clip was shared during Minecraft Live 2024 that showed Jack Black's iteration of Steve showing our protagonists, including 80s pro gamer Garrett (played by Jason Momoa), how a crafting table works in his world. Garrett expects himself to be a pro that can create a sword like Steve, but it appears that he still has much to learn as he accidentally creates buckets instead.
Sebastian Eugene Hansen's character Henry was also explained as taking the role of a Minecraft modder in a way, bending and twisting the rules of the Minecraft world to suit his needs as a natural tinkerer. While A Minecraft Movie received some polarizing reception with its first trailer, perhaps this Minecraft Live sneak peek can give fans a little more insight into what the film might be like.
A closer look at The Creaking and the Creaking Heart's mechanics
Within the Pale Garden biome, various pale oak trees can contain a creaking heart block. When aligned vertically with other pale oak blocks at night, the Creaking Heart activates, spawning The Creaking mob. This hostile mob will attack players who trespass in its territory, but the tree-like creature will stop approaching while players are looking at it, only approaching while they look away.
The Creaking, as a creation of the Creaking Heart, is tied to the block. While a Creaking is connected to the Creaking Heart that created it, it is impervious to damage. The only way to kill The Creaking is to destroy its Creaking Heart, at least according to Minecraft Live 2024's presentation.
All in all, the Pale Garden and The Creaking, along with all the goodies that surround them, should be a fun new and creepy twist on Minecraft worlds.
Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue is primed to debut in Dallas-Fort Worth in October 2024
On October 18, 2024, the Dallas-Fort Worth area will be receiving a real-world immersive experience known as Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue. In this experience, fans can walk through a series of interactive projection screens as they use a block provided to them to harvest resources, battle hostile mobs, and save a group of villagers from impending danger using the interactive screens.
The experience is set to arrive in Dallas-Fort Worth first, but the experience is planned to make stops in many more locations, according to Minecraft Live 2024. Fans can head to Minecraftexperience.com and share the locations they'd like the roaming interactive experience to come to in the coming months.
