Minecraft Movie behind-the-scenes footage explains the modded world of the film
Mojang recently released a behind-the-scenes video of A Minecraft Movie, which is set to release in April 2025. This video shows various shots of the actors, discussions with the filmmakers, and more. One of the most interesting points that was put forward was that one of the characters was portrayed as a Minecraft modder in the film.
This was quite interesting since many features showcased in the film's Minecraft world were not from the game's vanilla version.
Henry from A Minecraft Movie is depicted as a game modder, according to the film's producer
In the behind-the-scenes video, one of the producers of A Minecraft Movie, Torfi Frans Olafsson, and the director, Jared Hess, talked about various characters in the film and gave brief descriptions while the clip showed some shots of them in the film. When it came to Henry, portrayed by Sebastian Eugene Hansen, Olafsson stated the character was a modder, explaining how he tweaked the game's world in his own way:
"Henry is...basically the modder. The person who takes the vanilla game and tweaks it, adjusts it," (Timestamp: 1:28)
This explained quite a lot of details the teaser showcased when it was released a few months ago. When the first teaser came out, many players were unimpressed by the amount of third-party features that were crammed into the film. Popular Minecraft YouTuber Ph1LzA was also disappointed by the textures and overall look of the film, which gave the feeling that various mods were being used.
In the most recent BTS video, however, it was confirmed that one of the main characters in the film was a modder. A shot of Henry was shown in the video, where he was pulling a cart filled with various electronic parts, further confirming that he was into tinkering with technology.
Hence, the story could be woven around the narrative that Henry tweaked the Minecraft world in the film, which made it look different than the vanilla version. Of course, this is all speculation since the official detailed plot has not yet been revealed.
However, it is safe to say that the film will show some form of game modding since the producer confirmed Henry was a modder.
Other details showcased in A Minecraft Movie's BTS video
Apart from this small detail, the BTS video gave us a sneak peek into how the film crew worked on the production design for the set. Interestingly, several blocks and other items from the game were recreated for the movie. The footage also featured the director and one of the producers, who talked about the story, the milieu, and each character's backstories in the film.
On top of it, all five main characters, portrayed by Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Emma Myres, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen, were seen filming and joking around with each other between takes.
The official trailer of A Minecraft Movie will be released on November 19, 2024.
