Minecraft Movie trailer confirms villains from Mojang's action-strategy title
Warner Brothers has finally released the official trailer for A Minecraft Movie. The trailer gave us an idea of how the movie would look like and also gave brief hints about the story. Apart from introducing different characters, they also revealed the main antagonists of the film.
From the trailer, it turns out that Piglins and Ghasts from the Nether will be the main villains of the story. These mobs have also been portrayed as the bad guys in one of Mojang's recently released action-strategy games, Minecraft Legends.
Mojang's action-strategy game's villains portrayed as antagonists in A Minecraft Movie
In the Minecraft Movie official trailer, the filmmakers gave us a brief outline of the story, including Steve's backstory, how he progressed through the game, and the main antagonists that are posing a threat on the Overworld.
The main antagonists portrayed in the film were Piglins and Ghasts. Uniquely animated versions of both mobs were shown infiltrating the Overworld and destroying its natural terrain and biomes. In the background, Steve, played by Jack Black, mentioned how these creatures were destroying the beautiful Overworld and must be stopped.
Back in 2022, Mojang announced that they were working on an action-strategy game called Minecraft Legends. In this new game, they developed brand new types of Piglins that came into the Overworld, infected it, and destroyed it. Your character was then tasked with mustering an army of other Overworld creatures to save the realm.
Interestingly, the upcoming feature film could follow a similar narrative as the Piglins are depicted as the main villains and all all five real-life characters must come together to save the Overworld from getting destroyed.
The general appearance and variants of Piglins in the trailer matched what we saw in Minecraft Legends. On top of it, the official teaser and trailer also hinted at more powerful Piglin bosses that could feature in the movie.
Other details from A Minecraft Movie's official trailer
Apart from Piglins, there were loads to unpack in the official trailer. One of the most interesting parts was Steve's backstory and how he entered the world of Minecraft in the first place. The part where he showcases his redstone contraptions and valuable storage was also fascinating to witness. Even the regular hostile mobs looked unique as they were fully animated.
A Minecraft Movie is set to release internationally on April 4, 2025.
