Minecraft Pale Garden release: What we know so far

Minecraft Live 2024 confirmed the arrival of the Pale Garden biome that many fans had expected due to leaks a few days prior. Arriving in its own game drop, Mojang announced that the latest biome as well as its ominous mob known as the creaking would be arriving in experimental builds shortly and be fully implemented in the coming months, though specific dates weren't given.

It could be a while before more details about the Pale Garden biome for Minecraft are provided. So with that in mind, it's not a bad idea to examine what we know so far about the new biome, its creaking mob, and when it might be expected to be released.

As previously noted, no concrete release date was made available for the Pale Garden game drop during Minecraft Live 2024. Mojang's staff simply remarked that the game drop would be available soon via Java Edition snapshots and Bedrock Edition previews before being fully released outside of experimental builds later on in the coming months.

With the Bundles of Bravery game drop also in the works, the Pale Garden drop will likely arrive after it. Additionally, with Halloween on the horizon, one would expect Mojang to capitalize on the spooky tidings of the holiday and debut the Pale Garden (at least in snapshots/previews) sometime around Halloween. However, this isn't a guarantee and depends on Mojang's schedule.

What is the Pale Garden?

Found in the Overworld, the Pale Garden is a new and mysterious Minecraft biome filled to the brim with pale oak trees and covered with pale moss, which both hangs from the vegetation and carpets the forest floor. Ordinary hostile mobs can spawn in this biome when the light level reaches zero, but another danger lurks in the Pale Garden: the creaking.

The creaking is spawned by a unique block found within the Pale Garden known as the creaking heart. These hearts can generate within pale oak trees and, when placed and aligned between two pale oak log blocks, will spawn the creaking during the night. The creaking will stalk players, but players can halt them by looking directly at them.

The creaking is exceptionally resistant to damage. According to Mojang during Minecraft Live 2024, killing the creaking requires the destruction of the creaking heart block it's connected to. By striking it, orange spore-like particles appear that point out the location of the connected creaking heart.

The creaking will actively approach and attack players who aren't directly looking at them, and because several creaking hearts can generate within a Pale Garden biome, being overwhelmed by these mobs is a possibility. Players adventuring through the Pale Garden will have to stay on their toes, travel by daylight, and remove any creaking hearts they find proactively to prevent creaking spawns.

The Pale Garden also lacks any music, relying solely on ambient sound effects such as creaking tree sounds to populate the environment. All things considered, while much is still unknown about this biome, it should prove to be the creepy complement to the game that many fans had anticipated ahead of the Halloween festivities in 2024.
