Minecraft player takes three years to recreate Breath of the Wild
Minecraft players are known for their dedication to building massive structures and entirely new worlds inside the sandbox title. Likewise, a Redditor named u/lg_cuber and their team spent three years recreating the entire map of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in Minecraft.
This isn’t just any build. It’s a massive, detailed project that shows the dedication of both Zelda fans and Minecraft builders.
Breath of the Wild is known for its beautiful landscapes and massive open world. So, recreating it using Minecraft’s blocky style is an incredible achievement and has already caught the attention of thousands.
More about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo's most loved game franchises that has been around for decades. While almost every game in the franchise is critically acclaimed, Breath of the Wild stands out as one of the best. Released in 2017, it redefined the Zelda series with an incredible open-world experience.
Instead of following a set path, players were free to explore the vast land of Hyrule however they liked. The game’s focus on freedom, survival, and creativity made it a fan favorite, and it ended up winning multiple awards, including Game of the Year. Even its sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, was received quite favorably in 2023.
Naturally, recreating such an iconic world in Minecraft was no small task, and it's quite evident that the Redditor behind this project shares a deep love for both Zelda and Minecraft.
The Minecraft BOTW build: A Three-Year Journey
The Redditor u/lg_cuber led the project, working hard to bring Hyrule to life in Minecraft. Every hill, mountain, and shrine from Breath of the Wild was carefully recreated using Minecraft’s blocks. He also mentioned his YouTube channel, Grazzy, where fans can watch the making of this project.
The result? A stunning version of the game’s map that players can now explore in Minecraft. The build took three years to complete, and although that's a long time, it’s easy to see why. The Breath of the Wild map is enormous covering forests, deserts, snowy peaks, and more. Translating all of that into Minecraft required patience and a lot of perseverance.
Reacting to the creation, u/MonkeysxMoo35 pointed out how great it would have been if Nintendo and Mojang had collaborated on an official Zelda pack.
The Minecraft community was amazed by the scale of the project. One Redditor by the name of u/TheAwesomeLord1 even joked that the creator should take on the daunting task of recreating the Tears of the Kingdom map next.
