Minecraft for PS5: All you need to know

Minecraft is available for almost every platform. The PC and Mac have this title's Java edition, while Xbox and PlayStation consoles — as well as smartphones and the Nintendo Switch — support the Bedrock edition. However, one edition has been missing on the PlayStation 5 for almost five years: a native PS5 version of the game. Fortunately, that is about to change.

Mojang Studios has announced that the blocky game is finally getting a native PlayStation 5 version, and there are some things related to it you should know if you have the console.

This article will discuss everything special about this edition of Minecraft, including how much it will cost for people who already own the game.

The PlayStation 5 was released in 2020 and only supports Minecraft's PlayStation 4 version, something that will soon change. Since this edition is not the most demanding, it runs well on the PS5. However not being able to use the powerful hardware of the current-gen console is certainly a downside.

The native Minecraft version for the PlayStation 5 will allow the game to render larger distances and run smoother. The other exciting thing about this upcoming edition is that it will be able to utilize the DualSense controller's adaptive triggers and tiny speaker.

It will be interesting to see how the developers utilize these features of the controller to make the game more immersive. Perhaps they will make the triggers more resistant when you're using the bow and arrow.

As for the release date, Mojang Studios has announced that the PS5 native version of Minecraft will be launched on October 22, 2024. It will cost you nothing if you already own the PS4 version of Minecraft. In that case, all you have to do is head over to the PlayStation Store on your PS5, search for the game, and upgrade to the native version.

If you do not own Minecraft's PS4 version, then you will have to buy the new release just like any other game. Whether the price of the PlayStation 5 version will be different from the PlayStation 4 one is yet to be seen. Generally, PS5 versions of games cost more than their PS4 counterparts.
