Minecraft’s enchantment system is due for a major upgrade

In Minecraft, players can apply special powerups to any of their gear, such as weapons, armor, and tools. These special powerups are called enchantments and can be applied in two major ways: enchanting tables or an enchanting book. Both methods have a specific way of offering various enchantments to players.

However, since the beginning, the enchantment system hasn't received a major update. Furthermore, one can argument that it isn't the best system since players often have a hard time finding the exact enchantment they want. Hence, Mojang should look into it and make some improvements to the enchantment system.

Here's why Minecraft's enchanting system should receive a major update

The enchanting table gives completely random enchantments

In the game's early stages, players craft an enchanting table to get basic power-ups for their tools, weapons, and armor. The gear and a few lapis lazuli can be placed on the enchanting table to get the armor. The enchantment level depends on the number of lapis lazuli and the XP level of a player.

However, the table works on a random number generator (RNG), which means it will randomly pick from a list of enchantments that will apply to a certain gear. Though the level and the number of enchantments applied in one go are determined by the XP level, the type of enchantment is completely random.

This might be good early in the game since most enchantments do something positive and help players survive, many experienced players switch to librarian villager for enchanted books. Unfortunately, even librarians take time to offer the desired enchantment.

Getting desired enchantment from librarians can also be time-consuming

Trading with librarian villagers is the natural next step to get better and more focused enchantments in Minecraft. Librarians offer one enchantment in the form of an enchanted book as their very first trade, making them one of the best villagers in the game.

However, players might not get the desired enchantment the first time they open the trade list. Over the years, the game's community found a method to reshuffle a librarian's trade list by breaking and replacing their job site block, which is a lectern. This phenomenon makes the villagers unemployed, and then employed as a librarian again, changing its trade list.

Although players can repeat this step until they get their desired enchantment out of a librarian, it can still be a time-consuming process since the trade list shuffle is completely random as well.

Mojang could make the enchantment system more streamlined so players can grind for specific resources to get specific enchantments without waiting for the game's RNG to work in their favor.
