Minecraft: Should there be a boss mob representing the Overworld?

The Nether and the End each have a boss mob representing them, so it's about time Mojang added a boss to the Overworld. It has been over 10 years since the Wither was added to Minecraft, and players have long wondered what the next boss would be like. When we look at the spin-off game Minecraft Dungeons, we can see there are quite a few viable candidates for an Overworld boss.

Some of the boss mobs from Dungeons that could work are the Arch-Illager, the different monstrosities, and others that could fit in with the vanilla Minecraft world. Alternatively, the developers could just add a brand-new mob.

What rules would Mojang follow to create a boss?

Mojang has stated that it does not want to increase the difficulty of the game. So, if it were to introduce a boss mob, it would most likely not be wandering out in the open but instead be inside a structure, or it could be a summonable boss like the Wither. Alternatively, Mojang could introduce a new biome for the boss encounter. The boss could also be a mob that spawns inside caves.

An Overworld boss would probably be the weakest among the three as it would be the easiest to access. If it's a mob that spawns naturally, killing the boss could give an enormous amount of EXP and a trophy. If it is a summonable mob, defeating it could drop an item that enhances the players' abilities. There is also a possibility Mojang could disregard these rules.

Could the Red Dragon be added?

For those unaware, the Red Dragon was a mob concept introduced by Notch for a future update. Its status remains unclear following his exit from Mojang, though Jeb hinted that if added, it could potentially emerge from the Dragon Egg. But if it were to be added as an Overworld boss, it should function differently.

The Red Dragon should be a naturally spawning smaller version of the Ender Dragon. It should be easier to kill, as it would have a smaller health bar and won’t regenerate. Moreover, it should have a new biome, preferably a scorched version of any of the Plains (the first biome).

Should Minecraft Overworld have a boss?

Yes, it should, as it would greatly benefit from it. The Overworld is the most diverse dimension in Minecraft, yet, strangely, it doesn’t even have one boss. A lot of players who have played Minecraft might have never gone to the Nether or the End. As such, it would be great to expose them to a weaker boss.

The boss who will be the best addition is the Arch-Illager. The Illagers are a highly popular group of mobs in Minecraft and could benefit from a new structure — the Illager Town — where you can find the Arch-Illager and fight him.
