What is Minecraft Villager News? All you need to know

Minecraft Live 2024 recently featured a hilarious segment of Villager News where animated villagers talked about the new Creaking mob in a news format. While the segment was loved by millions during the live stream, it is not the first villager news segment ever made. In fact, this video series has been going on for more than a decade and was started by a YouTuber who was then officially licensed by Mojang and featured in several official events.

Here is everything to know about Minecraft's Villager News.

Minecraft Villager News: Entire timeline of the show and other details

Villager News origins

Villagers have been in Minecraft ever since the game was first released in 2011. They are human-like creatures who live in villages and roam around the settlement during the day. Even though Mojang did not add a lot of features to these villagers, most Minecraft players found them to be quite fascinating.

Element Animation, a veteran Minecraft YouTuber, decided to use these mobs to create a series called Villager News. The video was framed as a breaking news segment where one villager talks from the media house to another.

The first Villager News itself was extremely funny since it showcased how a villager violated a village rule of no littering. This act was caught on camera and later turned into a high-speed police chase. The police cars and even the helicopter were made entirely out of villagers, which was hilarious to witness.

The entire series was voiced by Dan Lloyd, the head of Element Animations and a voice actor.

Since the first video went viral on YouTube, Element Animation decided to upload multiple Villager News videos on its channel. At one point in time, these became one of the most watched Minecraft content on YouTube. At the time of writing, the first Villager News has over 33,000,000 views and the entire series of clips have over 200,000,000 views.

Mojang's collaboration with Element Animation

Due to Villager News' widespread popularity among the game's community, Mojang decided to work with Element Animation to create fun and interesting segments for their annual live show, MineCon and Minecraft Live. The series has been featured twice in official Mojang events.

The first collaboration took place in 2019 when Mojang revealed the Village and Pillage update. This was an apt event for the first official Villager News since the update was heavily related to the mob.

The second collaboration happened in 2024, when Mojang revealed the new Creaking mob and Pale Garden biome. In the Villager News segment, villagers talked about how there were rumors of a new spooky monster and went into the woods to find and capture it on camera.

The hilarious segment ended with everyone getting obliterated by an unknown creature, which was later revealed to be the Creaking.

These are the only times Mojang has officially collaborated with Element Animation for a special segment of Villager News.
