Which biomes are the rarest in Minecraft? (2024)

When players first enter a new Minecraft world, they usually spawn in a fairly regular and friendly biome where they can roam around, gather resources, and easily progress forward. However, there are a few rare biomes that hardly generate even though the game progressively generates them in every world. Players usually feel a sense of accomplishment whenever they find these hard-to-find regions.

Here are some of the rarest biomes in Minecraft.

Note: This article only talks about some of the rarest biomes and not all of them.

Details about the rarest biomes in Minecraft

Mushroom Fields

The Mushroom Fields is arguably the game's rarest biome. This isolated biome is located in the middle of nowhere, like an island. With the exception of mushroom cows called Mooshrooms, it doesn't spawn any hostile, passive, or even neutral mobs. This biome is entirely covered with mycelium and mushrooms and lacks grass and trees. Players can build their bases in this region and stay completely safe from any enemies.

Bamboo Jungle

Even while the Jungle is less frequent now than it was before the 1.18 update, it is still a difficult area to locate, particularly the bamboo jungle sub-biome. Tall bamboo and sporadic rainforest trees abound in this environment. Pandas may be found in this habitat, and players can obtain multiple stacks of bamboo from it. Bamboo can be easily farmed from this biome, which can then be used as a fuel in different types of furnaces.

Eroded Badlands

Even while the typical Badlands biome is rare, its eroded form is even more so. Tall spikes of variously colored terracotta blocks emerge from the canyons in this sub-biome. It is similar to the actual Bryce Canyons in Utah. Players could find small patches of this biome near Deserts and other Badlands variants.

Ice Spikes

This is one of the rarest variants of the cold biomes. The area is characterized by tall, packed-ice spikes. Although the highest ones can exceed 50 blocks, they are typically 10 to 20 blocks high. Only stray skeletons, polar bears, and rabbits spawn here.
