Why Minecraft 1.22 update might not include Pale Garden and Creaking

Mojang Studios recently hosted 2024 Minecraft Live where they talked about all the new content they have planned for the sandbox game. While many expected them to drop the next major update version 1.22, the developers instead discussed two smaller game drops that will bring new features. During the live show, they also introduced the new Pale Garden biome and Creaking mob.

Based on the roadmap of the upcoming updates, it appears Mojang Studios might not be releasing the new biome and mob with the 1.22 update. Let's find out why.

Reasons why Pale Garden and Creaking might not feature in Minecraft 1.22 update

Mojang's focus on game drops rather than major updates

Before Minecraft Live, Mojang Studios announced a major change in its update cycles. In an official blog post, the developer explained that rather than pushing major updates once or twice a year, it will release several smaller updates in the form of game drops.

These drops will have fewer features than bigger updates but will be more frequent throughout the year.

Mojang has not yet announced whether it will drop a major 1.22 update or continue with these smaller drops. In the live event, however, Jens Bergensten mentioned that these game drops will replace traditional summer updates.

Pale Garden and Creaking will most likely be part of a smaller game drop

In Minecraft Live 2024, Mojang Studios announced that it will now be dropping game drops rather than focusing on major updates. The developer explained that the bundles and hardcore mode in Bedrock Edition will arrive in the forthcoming game drop, while the Pale Garden biome and Creaking mob will come with the next one.

Regarding the blog post explaining the new update system, Mojang said that it has tried smaller game drops before with 1.20.5 Armored Paws, where it released armadillos and wolf armor.

Since these smaller drops did not change the second number of the update version, the upcoming drops, in which Mojang will introduce Pale Garden and Creaking, might also not change the version number from 1.21 to 1.22.

When could the Minecraft 1.22 update be announced?

While Mojang has shifted its focus to releasing smaller drops, it might also announce the next major update in the near future.

In the blog post where it discussed the future of Minecraft updates, the developers mentioned that its annual live event will now be split into two parts. This was the first part of the live event, while the second part could be hosted early in 2025. Hence, players can expect a 1.22 update news during the second live event by Mojang.
