Why Minecraft fans believe dyeable wood isn't a good idea
Minecraft will soon get the final version of the Winter Drop., an update that will add the much-awaited Pale Garden biome, and a mob called the Creaking. The game will also get a new wood type, called Pale Oak wood, that has a desaturated look. Some Minecraft players have put forward the idea of making the Pale Oak wood dyeable, granting them any color they want. However, there are some important reasons why this might not be a great idea.
User u/EnZeNYT shared a post asking the same question on the subreddit of the game. The image showed the Pale Oak wood block being combined with different dyes to make the colored version of the wood.
Reacting to this idea, user u/Solikamsky commented that Mojang Studios better add different wood types instead of giving players the ability to dye one. The user also added that they prefer concrete and terracotta stairs and slabs.
Another user named u/Chelovechik228 said that Mojang Studios has officially stated they will never be adding dyeable wood blocks. However, user u/Ragnar0k_And_R0ll pointed out that the developers also said the same about autocrafting. This was a contradiction as autocrafter block was added to the game.
User u/FenirXIII joked that the game engine would not be able to handle if dyeable woods were to be added. Another user named u/ShaneH7646 added to the joke saying that the developers would not have any other ideas for future updates.
Why dyeable wood in Minecraft is not a good idea
One of the major reasons why having dyeable wood is not a great idea is that it makes finding other wood types redundant. Exploring different biomes in both the overworld and nether dimension is fun because players get to find various wood types for multiple uses.
The developer has added various wood types such as red wood, mangrove wood, dark oak, etc because it serves the purpose of colored wood blocks. If the option to dye wood blocks is added, it would take away one of the major reasons why players bother to find biomes in the game. Any feature that limits exploration is not a good addition.
Players also want the developer to use their time and resources to add useful updates. One example is the addition of vertical slabs. The ability to change the orientation of the slabs is one of the most sought-after features. Yet, for some reason, Mojang Studios is not very keen on bringing it to the game anytime soon.
Another reason is that players want more wood types. Hopefully, Mojang Studios might add new biomes with their own tree type in the future. This would be a much better addition than the ability to dye any wood block such as the Pale Oak, as new trees would come with other useful features.
Concrete is an already present item in the game, and players can dye it to make it whatever color they want. The whole reason why this item exists is to be used in construction.
Mojang Studios has given players the option to add colors to their build by using dyed concrete blocks. Adding dyeable woods would make little to no sense when there is already an item present that does the same thing.
Coloring wood types can also result in bright, garish shades that do not look good. This is the reason why most players want wood blocks from different trees in their build as their color is subtle and more nuanced.
