Why Minecraft's "keep inventory and experience" feature on easy mode makes survival dull

Mojang recently released a new Minecraft Bedrock Edition beta/preview version 1.21.50.20. While the main additions in this preview are the new Creaking mob and Pale Garden biome, it also brings some drastic changes in the game modes, specifically easy and peaceful modes. The studio has allowed players to keep their inventory and experience in these modes.

However, one can argue that this will massively affect Minecraft's survival aspect due to the lack of significant consequences.

Note: This article is subjective and solely reflects the writer's opinion. Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that this particular feature is in the beta stage and Mojang could make changes or revert it.

Here's why Minecraft's keep inventory and experience feature on easy mode will massively soften the game's survival aspect

Details about the new keep inventory and experience feature on easy and peaceful mode

In survival mode, players either respawn in the world spawn area, next to a bed, or at a respawn anchor when they die. They do, however, lose every block and item in their inventory. They also start from scratch and lose all their experience points.

But Mojang changed this in the easy and peaceful game modes in the most recent beta/preview version 1.21.50.20, allowing players to retain experience points and items in their inventory even after they respawn. A player's possessions from before they pass away include all their armor, weapons, tools, and other items.

This will significantly alter players' exploration of the game, particularly on a simple level where they may still die from hostile mob attacks but with less severe consequences.

Almost no consequence of dying in easy mode

As a result of this change tested by Mojang, it can make the easy mode somewhat dull to play. Since players are not losing their items and experience points, they are almost not losing anything upon dying. Even if they jump in the lava and burn, they will not lose a single item in the fire since they are locked in the inventory.

The only consequence they will face is that they will respawn back to the respawn point and have to travel all the way back. However, this too can be easily fixed with beds and respawn anchors.

Since Minecraft has always been a pure survival game, dying in it is the last thing players want. However, if death has no major consequence, the survival aspect will drastically diminish, making the game somewhat dull and lacking the punch it used to give earlier.
