Why Trail Ruins is the most underwhelming feature in Minecraft's recent updates
In recent years, Mojang has added loads of new features to Minecraft's Overworld realm like structures, biomes, mobs, blocks, and items. Some of these features instantly became favorites, while others were underwhelming and went under the radar. One of these components was the Trail Ruins structure.
An argument can be made that this new structure was one of the most underwhelming features in recent Minecraft updates.

Reasons why Trail Ruins can be considered one of the dullest features in recent Minecraft updates
Trail Ruins are hard to find
Mojang added Trail Ruins as part of the Trails and Tales update 1.20. This structure is only generated in heavy forest biomes like Taiga, Jungle, Birch Forest, and Old Growth variants of forests.
One of the reasons why the new structure went under the radar is because it was mostly buried underneath the ground. Hence, players were unable to see the structure in all its glory.
Because it only generates underground, the Trail Ruins can be difficult to find in Minecraft. Players will have to walk slowly through various forest biomes to spot the unique blocks sticking out of the ground.
The difficulty of spotting Trail Ruins and the inability to witness the structure completely makes it quite underwhelming.
Lackluster loot in Trail Ruins
Another major reason why players were not too interested in finding Trail Ruins was because of its loot. Mojang did not add any hidden chests in the buried structure and instead introduced new suspicious gravel and sand blocks that can be brushed to find loot inside them.
In Trail Ruins, suspicious gravel can be randomly found, which can be brushed to reveal items. However, the items found in the structure are not too enticing.
These suspicious gravel blocks only have a 4.4% chance of generating items like blue dye, brick, various colored candles, and other regular items inside them. Though it also has a 4.4% chance of generating emeralds, there are much more lucrative methods of earning them.
There is another category of rare suspicious gravel blocks that has a separate loot table, but they are much rarer than common ones. Though a few rare items, like music discs and armor trims, can be exciting to find, such as pottery sherds, which can only used for decorative purposes, can be underwhelming for many players as well.
Due to subpar loot tables of suspicious gravel blocks, the Trail Ruins can also feel mundane in Minecraft.
