Will there be a Minecraft Story Mode Season 3?
The game Minecraft Story Mode was developed by Telltale Games, with the first season being introduced back in October 2015. The spin-off was fairly successful, with many players wanting more from it. A second season was released in 2017, and it performed decently in terms of sales. That said, many fans have questioned whether a third season can be expected.
Unfortunately, it appears Minecraft Story Mode Season 3 will never see the light of day. This article takes an in-depth look at why a third season of the game is unexpected anytime soon.
Is Minecraft Story Mode Season 3 coming?
At the time of writing, Minecraft Story Mode Season 3 is unlikely, as Mojang Studios has not publicly acknowledged the possibility of a third installment. There are a few reasons why MC SM Season 3 may not be released.
Mojang Studios created the game in collaboration with Telltale Games. Unfortunately, the latter went bankrupt in 2018 and lost its licensing rights to the game. Telltale Games was later acquired by another company and remains active, although is does not appear likely they will make another MCSM game.
Is MCSM Season 3 possible?
Another question that many fans often ask is whether MC Story Mode Season 3 is possible. The answer to that is, yes, that is certainly possible. Mojang Studios could either approach another game studio or develop it themselves if they find the investment worth it. This is a big if, as the developer has a lot on its plate.
The developer also announced restructuring its update system and will release smaller updates more frequently. Moreover, a new motion picture, A Minecraft Movie, is releasing soon. With everything going on, it seems unlikely that Mojang Studios would spend its resources on a spin-off game.
Minecraft spin-offs have not typically performed well, aside from Story Mode. MC Earth, Dungeon, and Legends were fairly successful but not what Mojang Studios expected. This reduces its incentive to make another spin-off, and the team would look to instead focus on improving the main game.
The developers have announced many upcoming features and items to the game. The Bundles of Bravery update will finally add bundles to the game, along with the Hardcore mode for the Bedrock Edition. Yet, the announcement of a future update has stolen the show.
Minecraft will soon get a new biome called the Pale Garden, and a hostile mob called the Creaking. Thus, with all these new features, it seems very unlikely that Mojang Studios is working on the next MCSM season, or even planning to.
