5 UFC stars as Looney Tunes characters
The UFC is home to a colorful roster of mixed martial artists. Their personalities are diverse and varied, to the point where almost no fighter under Dana White's banner is alike. Some personalities, however, stand out more than others for countless reasons.
Conor McGregor, for example, is easily the most visible personality in the entire promotion. Colby Covington, while visible, is a far more chaotic presence. On some level, the personalities in the UFC are cartoonish.
In the cartoon world, almost no personality is as absurd as the ones showcased by Looney Tunes characters. Thus, the premise of this list is simple: five UFC fighters with parallels in the Looney Tunes cartoon series.
#5. Khamzat Chimaev, UFC welterweight/middleweight - Foghorn Leghorn
Khamzat Chimaev is the UFC's latest undefeated sensation. He finished nearly all of his opponents en route to a spotless 12-0 record. Only Gilbert Burns survived his initial onslaught to drag him into the first decision of his career. Inside the octagon, 'Borz' is a hyper-aggressive force of nature.
Outside the octagon, he is a brash and bombastic personality who engages in constant trash talk while promising to kill everyone in his division. This is similar to Foghorn Leghorn's own loudmouthed and aggressive personality. Additionally, 'Borz' is easily the largest welterweight in his division.
In a similar vein, Foghorn Leghorn is the tallest of all the classic Looney Tunes characters. He has a knack for mischief, much like the Chechen phenom who sparked a brawl with Kevin Holland, confronted Paulo Costa at the UFC Performance Institute, and shrugged his shoulders after missing weight.
#4. Jorge Masvidal, UFC welterweight - Wile E. Coyote
Wile E. Coyote is a silent character for the most part. But his characterization is still understood by many. The animated character is defined by his fundamental desire to capture the Road Runner, something he consistently fails to do. He was also based on a living allegory of want and desire.
It best describes Jorge Masvidal. The second half of 'Gamebred's' career has been defined by his desire for more, whether it's more money or a title fight. While he has managed to secure better pay from contract negotiations, his attempts at capturing a divisional title have failed thus far.
His attempts have gone so far that he has even tried to earn a grossly undeserved title fight while being on a three-fight losing streak. But like Wile E. Coyote, 'Gamebred' has failed to fulfill his ultimate goal despite his desire engulfing him.
#3. Israel Adesanya, UFC middleweight - Marvin the Martian
On the surface, 'The Last Stylebender' is a calm and collected presence but is quick to anger in response to any slight, whether real or otherwise.
For example, the enmity he feels towards Robert Whittaker is due to the latter choosing to share a meme about him prior to their first encounter. Due to that, the former champion developed a grudge against the Australian. This sensitive streak was even more evident against Paulo Costa and Alex Pereira.
During a pre-fight press conference for UFC 253, 'Borrachinha' was asked for his thoughts on his rival's earring. After joking that he thought his mother had a similar earring, Adesanya responded by asserting that Costa wished his mother did.
When it came to 'Poatan', he publicly lambasted journalists before asserting that he could do their jobs while they couldn't do his. Marvin the Martian has a similarly superficially calm personality that quickly becomes unhinged over perceived disrespect, even trying to destroy Earth for petty reasons.
#2. Anderson Silva, former UFC middleweight - Bugs Bunny
Bugs Bunny is a trickster who often makes his enemies look foolish for challenging or antagonizing him. Furthermore, he is almost always victorious over his foes. To prevent the audience from disconnecting from a protagonist who always wins, writers typically write Bugs Bunny as a victim of antagonism.
Anderson Silva best fits this description out of any other UFC fighter. He was a trickster during the peak of his powers. He often duped his opponents with his elusive counter-striking, never playing the aggressor, only the matador. Additionally, like Bugs Bunny, 'The Spider' once seemed unbeatable.
The former middleweight titleholder is responsible for one of the greatest win streaks in the promotion's history, during which he seemed invincible.
#1. Conor McGregor, UFC lightweight - Daffy Duck
No Looney Tunes character resembles Conor McGregor more than Daffy Duck. He is 'despicable', while the Irishman is 'notorious'. Both have extremely combative personalities and are as assertive and reward-driven as they come. McGregor's entire career has been defined by his desire for success.
He willingly sacrifices elements of his legacy in pursuit of monetary rewards. He opted against defending his lightweight title in favor of securing a lucrative boxing match against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Furthermore, he has become more unrestrained and unhinged in recent years.
The Irishman's numerous scandals outside the cage have painted him as a volatile individual similar to Daffy Duck's lunatic streak as a screwball character archetype.
