Adriano Moraes looks ahead to positive 2023, wants to compete in Brazil

Adriano Moraes has big aspirations for 2023. After suffering a fourth-round knockout against flyweight rival Demetrious Johnson at ONE on Prime Video 1, ‘Mikinho’ is determined to get the title back around his waist, but that isn’t the only thing Moraes has planned for the new year.

In an interview with ONE Championship, Moraes said:

“The perfect schedule would be one with a lot of work, a lot of health, a lot of battles, and a lot of travel so that our work is even more recognized in the four corners of the world. Also, to recover the ONE Championship Title and have a super-fight in the second half of the year. And, who knows, be part of the first ONE Championship card in Brazil.”

It’s clear from his comments that Adriano Moraes plans to stay active in 2023. On May 5, he will make his return to the Circle as one-half of the ONE on Prime Video 10 headliner against division rival and reigning flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson. The event will also be the promotion’s first event held in the United States.

Once he makes history in America, Moraes hopes to compete in his home country of Brazil. Earlier this year, ONE Championship announced its partnership with Globo, the largest media company in Latin America, to broadcast events live in Brazil on Combate.

Adriano Moraes learned to cope with his world title loss at ONE on Prime Video 1

It’s a position Adriano Moraes has unfortunately experienced before. Losing a world championship is never easy to deal with, but following his defeat at the hands of pound-for-pound great Demetrious Johnson in August, ‘Mikinho’ did the same thing he would do after any other fight, win or lose:

“After the defeat, I did what I always do, regardless of whether I won or lost the fight. I took time for myself to recover, to absorb everything that happened in the fight, and take some lessons. Then I went back to the academy to fix some mistakes, analyze some details of my game, and start all over again.”

In just a few short months, Moraes will get the opportunity to reclaim the flyweight world championship when he meets ‘Mighty Mouse’ for the third and final time at ONE on Prime Video 10.
