Alex Pereira gives back to society ahead of UFC 307

Alex Pereira, having grown up in a favela in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and later suffering from alcoholism, knows a thing or two about hardships. That is why the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion prefers to give back to society whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Ahead of his upcoming title defense against Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 307, 'Poatan' returned to his roots with incredible generosity. Pereira visited the neighborhood of Batistini, Sao Bernardo do Campo, and distributed a truckload of ration to more than a thousand needy families.

In the video, featured in the UFC 307 Countdown vlog, Pereira said:

"This is where I was born and raised. We're going to give away over a thousand boxes, helping over a thousand families. It's something I've been doing for a while."

He continued:

"My reality used to be theirs. I went through a lot of hardship, and my biggest fear was always being hungry. So if I can do something to help, I'll do it."

He also visited the tire shop where he used to work as well as his gym and mingled with his old friends.

Dr. David Abbasi explains Renato Moicano's UFC Paris shoulder injury

Following last Saturday's UFC Paris, Renato Moicano confirmed the report that he went into the fight with a three-week-old shoulder injury. Moicano defeated Benoit Saint Denis in the main event via doctor's stoppage TKO after pummelling him throughout the first round.

Combat sports physician and orthopedic surgeon Dr. David Abbasi took to X to explain what exactly went wrong with Moicano's shoulder:

"He posted his shoulder X-ray which shows a clear gap between the clavicle or collarbone and the acromion. What's going on with that is what we call a shoulder separation... [which is] is different from a shoulder dislocation... Essentially a shoulder separation occurs when you fall directly on the shoulder and the energy goes through the AC joint tearing the AC ligament and the coracoclavicular ligaments."

He added that Moicano would require a shoulder reconstruction surgery using a cadaver tendon to fix the issue:

"Now that this bone is unchecked it will rise up because it's no longer held down by the ligaments. It's being pulled up by other muscles like the sternocleidomastoid muscle. The fact that he was able to compete at this high a level is impressive. It shows the toughness of UFC fighters like Moicano. This requires surgery to get this corrected."
