Nate Diaz being eyed by BKFC president, waiting for UFC re-negotiation window to close

BKFC president David Feldman recently stated that he's confident of signing Nate Diaz to his promotion. The MMA superstar is now a free agent, having fought out his contract with the UFC earlier this year.

In an interview with Curran Bhatia, Feldman was asked about the likelihood of Diaz fighting in the BKFC, to which he replied:

"I hope so. I do hope so. They're still inside the re-negotiation window with the UFC right now... But if he does become a free agent outside of this window, we will probably end up grabbing him because I think we're going to pay him what we think he's worth and he's worth more to us than he is to another organization."

Nate Diaz faced Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 in the last fight of his contract. The Stockton slugger opted against re-signing with the world's premier MMA organziation, and after a three-month exclusive re-negotiation period, he will be free to join other organizations.

Diaz has no shortage of options going forward. Apart from being targeted by the BKFC, he is also being touted as a potential opponent for YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul. Bellator's Scott Coker has already hinted at being in contact with the former UFC fighter.

Dustin Poirier on missing out on Nate Diaz fight

Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz were initially slated to square off back in 2018, but the fight didn't come to fruition. Amidst Diaz's contract negotiations with the UFC earlier this year, Poirier was seemingly the frontrunner to fight the Stockton native.

Diaz was then matched up with Khamzat Chimaev for the final fight of his contract after negotiations fell through. However, when Chimaev was having issues making the welterweight limit of 171 pounds, Poirier was looking to step in on short notice. At the 11th hour, the promotion offered Diaz Tony Ferguson instead.

Speaking on narrowly missing out on a fight against Diaz multiple times, Poirier said prior to UFC 281 in New York City:

โ€œIโ€™ve always wanted to fight Nate, we tried to make it happen a few times. It always fell apart. It sucks that heโ€™s gone now, and I wonโ€™t get that chance to fight him. But it is what it is, the sport moves on.โ€
