“You can’t make a fight happen that’s not meant to be” - Christian Lee on missed opportunity with Eddie Alvarez

'The Warrior' Christian Lee never got his showdown against veteran Eddie Alvarez. The Singaporean-American held the ONE lightweight world title while Alvarez struggled to find success as part of ONE Championship's roster.

Eddie Alvarez was a matchup that 'The Warrior' would have liked, but with the former UFC champion's departure, it's now off the table. In an interview with The MMA Super-Fan, Christian Lee explained:

"Yeah, I was looking forward to fighting Eddie ever since he signed with the promotion. But you can’t make a fight happen that’s not meant to be."

Alvarez has fighting experience all around the world, including in the UFC, Bellator, DREAM, and ONE Championship. He is currently a free agent after amicably parting ways with the Asian promotion.

Lee wished him well, saying:

"Eddie, he’s done an amazing job with his career. He’s fought in almost every organization out there, and claimed multiple world titles. At this point in his career, he doesn’t have much else to prove. I just wish him the best in whatever he goes on to next."

Christian Lee talks about capturing the lightweight crown

'The Warrior' will be headlining ONE on Prime Video 4 on November 18. He is going up a weight class to fight for a place on another throne against ONE welterweight world champion Kiamrian Abbasov.

The 24-year-old will be looking to become the latest two-division world champion in ONE.

Christian Lee was the world champion of the lightweight division but lost his crown to Ok Rae Yoon in 2021. With an authoritative knockout victory, however, 'The Warrior' recaptured the ONE lightweight world championship earlier this year.

For this win, Lee credits being able to block out social media to keep his mind focused on the current task. In an interview with ONE, he said:

“It was great. For me, I don't really care too much for social media anyways. I just spent all the time focused on training. The rest of my time is spent with my family. I have more than enough. I have my hands full with running after my one-year-old baby girl, just spending the time at home with my wife and my daughter, then going into the gym and training. I'm really just focused, blocking out all distractions, and only having my focus on the task at hand.”

He will need to focus fully on ONE on Prime Video 4 to capture the welterweight crown as his Russian adversary will be a major test.
