David Benavidez next fight: Boxer pushes for Canelo Alvarez bout after beating Caleb Plant
David Benavidez believes it's time for him to finally get a crack at Canelo Alvarez.
'The Mexican Monster' returned to the ring over the weekend to face Caleb Plant. The pair headlined a Showtime pay-per-view and had a lot of bad blood heading in. Beyond the bad blood, the winner of the bout is expected to face Canelo Alvarez.
In the super-middleweight number-one contender bout over the weekend, 'Sweet Hands' got out to an early lead. However, he wasn't able to sustain it as Benavidez came on strong in the second half of the contest. In the end, the Mexican star got the victory with a lopsided unanimous decision.
Following the win, David Benavidez headed to the post-fight press conference. There, he decided to give an impassioned plea to face Canelo Alvarez next. The super-middleweight contender has long been viewed as potentially the biggest challenger to the champion's reign.
In the post-fight presser, Benavidez called for him to get his shot to do so. He stated:
"Canelo Alvarez needs these fights, a big fighter like me... I want to prove myself. Canelo's proven himself, but I feel like he has to give me an opportunity too. It's not like I'm begging for something, I've been mandatory for the last two fights... The only fight people want to see at super middleweight is me vs. Canelo, so let's give it to them."

David Benavidez next fight: Mike Tyson previews 'The Mexican Monster' vs. Canelo Alvarez
Mike Tyson recently gave some massive praise to David Benavidez.
'The Mexican Monster' noted after defeating Caleb Plant that he's been the mandatory challenger for Canelo Alvarez for a while. That is true, but the champion has stated that Benavidez needed a big win to get the shot.
For a while now, many fans and fighters have stated that Benavides poses the biggest challenge to Alvarez.
Tyson would seem to be in agreement with that. During a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, 'Iron Mike' picked David Benavidez to beat Canelo Alvarez or anyone he gets in the ring with.
“Benavidez could beat everybody. My money is with Benavidez until he gets beat. And then if he gets beat, I'm still with him. His attitude. He was a little heavy fat kid [growing up], and stuff like that, and he wanted to prove himself to the world. The greatest fighters in the world are the most insecure fighters. It doesn't seem that way, but it is.” [0:10 - 0:34]
