Either Jorge Masvidal or the UFC is lying about fight status, says Gilbert Burns

Gilbert Burns believes Jorge Masvidal was lying when 'Gamebred' claimed he was never offered a fight against 'Durinho'.

Another scenario, according to Burns, was that the matchmaker Hunter Campbell and the UFC were lying to him. But the Brazilian highly doubts that to be the case.

Appearing in front of the press at UFC 282, Burns addressed Masvidal's comments and put his rival on blast:

"He was lying, for sure. Or Hunter and the UFC were lying. I don't believe they were, but they offered me Jorge. [They said], 'You wanna fight Jorge?' That was the question. You wanna fight Jorge Masvidal [at] MSG? You guys know what I'm gonna say. I said, for sure."

Burns added that the UFC then told him that Masvidal wasn't ready and that the fight would be rescheduled to December 10. The welterweight contender agreed only for the bosses to tell him that Masvidal had requested for the fight to take place at UFC 283 in Brazil.

Burns revealed that he was eventually told the fight was off and that he'd have to face a different opponent. The 36-year-old is now gearing up for a matchup against Neil Magny in January.

Jorge Masvidal court case could cost Colby Covington fight against Khamzat Chimaev: Gilbert Burns

Gilbert Burns isn't convinced that the rumored Colby Covington vs. Khamzat Chimaev fight will come to fruition.

As far as he knows, Covington's ongoing legal battle with Jorge Masvidal prevents him from getting back into the cage. With that in mind, Burns believes Chimaev's next fight will either be a rematch with him or a matchup against Belal Muhammad.

"Yeah, I think that fight is not happening. I think... I don't know. I think it will either be me or Belal. I think one of us. I don't think Colby's fighting. It don't look like it. That thing with Jorge is going to a different direction. I just think that fight Khamzat and Colby isn't happening that's why I wanna beat Neil Magny in Brazil."

For context, Covington and Masvidal are engaged in a legal issue after 'Gamebred' assaulted 'Chaos' in Miami earlier this year. The attack caused injuries to Covington, who hasn't fought since.
