Israel Adesanya reflects on an epic UFC 283 main event
The first UFC pay-per-view main event of 2023 did not disappoint, as Glover Teixeira and Jamahal Hill went to war for 25 minutes in Brazil. 'Sweet Dreams' was crowned the undisputed light heavyweight champion after all three judges scored the fight 50-44 in favor of the American.
Many felt that Teixeira would dominate the grappling sequences prior to the contest, but Hill's savviness on the ground allowed him to get back to his feet time after time.
'Sweet Dreams' dominated the striking exchanges and landed a UFC divisional record of 232 significant strikes over five rounds.
Israel Adesanya reflected on the battle on his YouTube channel and commended Hill for not allowing Teixeira's toughness to affect his mindset. 'The Last Stylebender' said the following:
"I was getting chills watching [Jamahal Hill]. To get to that point in a fight like that [where] he's dominating but you get to the fifth round and you're trying to put this guy away, [and] he's not going away... some people can fold under that kind of pressure - but he didn't. He stayed true."
Glover Teixeira displayed the heart of a champion, and despite incurring serious damage, the Brazilian continued to march Hill down.
Adesanya gave the former light heavyweight champion props for his grit and ability to face adversity:
"Twice I was like, 'Oh s**t [the fight] is done now.' The f***ing comeback king, he's just right there, the man doesn't go away. People like that are hard to fight."
