Jones-Cormier 2 for the Light Heavyweight belt to headline UFC 197
The most anticipated return and a mouth-watering rematch are what UFC 197 have to offer us. Former Light Heavyweight champion and number 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world Jon Jones will face the incumbent Daniel Cormier for the belt he never lost.
Jones was stripped of the title following a hit-and-run incident in April last year. The scandal broke just before his title defense against Anthony Johnson and Daniel Cormier replaced him in the main event. Cormier, who lost a five-round Unanimous Decision to Jones earlier, tapped out Johnson to win the vacant belt.
Jones was reinstated in the UFC in October last year and will fight for the Light Heavyweight belt almost a year to the day after he was forced to vacate it.
The co-main event will see Flyweight king Demetrious Johnson will attempt to break his own record of seven consecutive title defenses as he faces Henry Cejudo. The number 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, ‘Might Mouse’ won his last bout against John Dodson with a five-round Unanimous Decision.
Cejudo, who is undefeated in his career (10-0, 4-0 UFC) will attempt to dethrone the longest-reigning current champion. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Cejudo, aged 21, won gold to become the youngest American to win the top prize in that discipline.
