Kurt Angle to Bellator, Poirier - Duffy booked for UFC 195
- Bellator continues to make waves by bringing in established names in the world of combat sports, and while not at the level of industry leader UFC yet, they are slowly carving out a niche place as an entertaining alternative to the mighty UFC.
One of the ways it has gone about doing so is by bringing in established names, many of them beyond their prime, into the fold. The latest to jump on the bandwagon is Olympic gold medallist and former WWE & TNA champion Kurt Angle.
In an announcement made yesterday, Kurt Angle was revealed to be a participant at the upcoming Bellator 145 "Fan Fest," which is scheduled for Nov. 5, 2015, at Dave & Buster's in Maryland Heights, Mo., as a special guest.
The event will also see legendary MMA names including Royce Gracie, Tito Ortiz, Ken Shamrock and Kimbo Slice among others, as special guests for the event. The guests are slated to sign autographs and pose for photos at the event.
This development isn’t surprising to many who have followed Angle’s career, as he has flirted with the idea of a career inside the cage a number of times, including once in the UFC. Reportedly, he was in talks with the UFC over appearing on The Ultimate Fighter series alongside Kimbo Slice, but those plans fell off.
- UFC fans were really excited to see Joe Duffy take on Dustin ‘Diamond’ Poirier in the main event of UFC Fight Night 76, last weekend. However, it didn’t happen as Duffy pulled out of the fight less than a week before it was meant to happen, citing a concussion received in practise.
However, UFC fans disappointed with the news, wouldn’t have to wait for too long to see these top lightweights battle it out, as the company has slotted the bout as part of the UFC 195 card on January 2nd, 2016.
The card is set to be headlined by a welterweight title bout between reigning champion Robbie Lawler and former interim titleholder Carlos Condit. The co-main event is set to be a battle to decide who would be the next challenger for the UFC Heavyweight championship, as Stipe Miocic takes on streaking Andrei Arlovski.
