MMA News: Conor McGregor vs Eddie Alvarez for the UFC Lightweight Title at UFC 205, MSG!
The wait is finally over for the UFC, for the fans, for the MMA pundits, and for McGregor himself as he will finally get an opportunity to become the first ever fighter to hold two UFC titles simultaneously.
The UFC President took the MMA world by storm by breaking a shocking piece of news. The Notorious will go up against with Eddie Alvarez for his UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC’s first event at Madison Square Garden - UFC 205.
White denied Conor a lightweight title bout against Alvarez at UFC 205 only a week ago, stating that he wants the UFC featherweight champion to defend his title against his former foe Jose Aldo. The current announcement contradicts his previous one that stated Eddie Alvarez would defend his strap against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 206.
However, White’s latest statements contradict the past ones, only to drop a bombshell in the MMA community.
For every Mcgregor fan out there, the UFC President has also made it clear that the featherweight champ will not have to surrender his title that he won by knocking out Aldo.
This announcement has put the entire featherweight division on hold to get a title shot, especially Interim Champ Jose Aldo, who was looking forward to a title unification bout. After winning the featherweight title, Conor was scheduled to fight former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos. Unfortunately, RDA pulled out citing a broken foot and was replaced by Nate Diaz, contributing to two of the best super fights in the history of the company.
A triple-treat is in store for the New Yorkers. The UFC 205 card will also feature a welterweight title fight between Stephen Thomson and current UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. Prior to this super bout, the fans will also witness two undefeated strawweight warriors go head to head for the UFC Women’s Strawweight strap – Joanna Jdrzejczyk versus Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
