MMA News: Dana White says Conor McGregor can't hold on to both the belts!
The UFC Featherweight champion Conor McGregor will try to make history when faces Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, in an attempt to be the first person to hold two UFC belts simultaneously. The Notorious is certainly the biggest draw in the UFC currently but Dana White has some bad news.
Lately, it’s been reported by Foxsports that McGregor will have to let go of one of his title belts if he wins Alvarez’s Lightweight championship at UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden. According to White, Conor will have to make the decision by himself.
“He (McGregor) will give up one of the titles after that fight in New York.”
McGregor had a perfect response to White’s statement –
“I’m gonna wrap one on one shoulder and I’m gonna wrap the other one on the other shoulder, and they’re gonna need a fucking army to come take them belts off me.”
Previously White had been adamant on not granting Conor a shot at UFC Lightweight title after his loss to Nate Diaz but due to some undisclosed reasons the UFC made the sudden decision on letting McGregor fight in the UFC’s maiden event in New York.
Jose Aldo was demolished by McGregor in a 13-second knockout victory and this win had earned him a shot against the then-lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos but RDA pulled out citing shin injury. This resulted in two epic battles with Nate Diaz.
White was keen on working towards a McGregor-Aldo rematch after UFC 202. But things change, and Aldo felt deceived and requested to be released from the company.
Undefeated lightweight fighter Khabib Nurmagemedov was originally booked to fight Alvarez for the UFC Lightweight Championship but was later rescheduled to fight Michael Johnson at UFC 205. Both Aldo and Nurmagomedov lost their opportunities to win the championship strap at UFC 205.
Nurmagomedov has also subsequently threatened to quit the company if he doesn’t get a title shot soon. Conor McGregor, however, appears to be undeterred by Jose Aldo and Nurmagomedov’s ruffling of feathers within the UFC and is focusing on the task ahead of him.

It is ultimately the UFC’s decision whether Conor gets to hold on to both the belts or not. Since Dana White has made his intentions clear, it’s possible that even if Conor McGregor wins, his ownership of both the titles would last through one photo-shoot, upon which he will most certainly be giving one of the belts up.
