What’s the story?
UFC President Dana White appeared on a recent edition of UFC Tonight and opened up on a myriad of topics.
Addressing the ongoing speculation of Floyd Mayweather Jr. possibly fighting Conor McGregor in the UFC, White asserted that Mayweather ought to fulfill his promise of fighting in the UFC.
In case you didn’t know…
Floyd Mayweather Jr.—one of the greatest boxers of all time—fought UFC Lightweight kingpin Conor McGregor in a pro-boxing bout in August of last year; besting the latter via 10th round TKO. Mayweather boasted a 49-0 record in boxing before this game and this victory took his record to a perfect 50 wins without any losses.
The heart of the matter
Both Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather have been teasing a rematch between them that’s set to take place in the UFC—with Mayweather also posting a few videos and photos of himself wearing MMA gloves and entering an MMA cage.
Dana White addressed Mayweather’s teases of fighting McGregor in the UFC; stating—
“Floyd said leading up to the fight with Conor that he would do both…We’ll see what happens—obviously the only way making that fight again makes sense is if he comes into the octagon. We went over and boxed him—the UFC and Conor McGregor. Now it’s time for him to reciprocate and come fight in the octagon.”
What’s next?
Conor McGregor remains non-committal as to whom he’ll face next in the UFC, whereas Floyd Mayweather continues to tease an MMA debut this year. Fans can expect further details on the McGregor-Mayweather rivalry to unravel in the days to come.
Author’s take
Dana White does have a valid point, in the sense that Floyd Mayweather has teased a match in the famed octagon in UFC under MMA rules.
Besides, the rematch would also be a mega-money matchup just like the original one and both the involved parties would definitely like to capitalize on it.
