MMA News: Jones-Cormier II announced as main event of UFC 200

The best graphics we’ve seen in a while

The UFC appear to have slid aside the Conor McGregor imbroglio and honed in on the Jon Jones-Daniel Cormier rematch for the main event of UFC 200. Jones is basking in his triumphant return to the octagon after a year, defeating Ovince St.Preux in a five round washout to claim the interim Light Heavyweight title.

The rematch was slated for recently elapsed UFC 197, but a last-minute injury to current champ Cormier put the whole bout in jeopardy until St.Preux agreed to the fight. Jones, though victorious, didn’t exhibit the mastery that led many to call him the greatest of all time. His endurance and fluency were conspicuously halting.

Jones was reportedly in line for a medical suspension following the bout, but it is apparent that he’s fit to fight. Cormier was cleared to fight on Monday. At the UFC 200 press conference, the two picked up right where they left off, never letting each other out of their crosshairs and giving those in attendance an appetizing spectacle.

The UFC 200 card has no dearth of star power, with Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo set for the Interim Featherweight title and Miesha Tate putting her Bantamweight belt on the line against up-and-coming Brazilian Amanda Nunes.

The card was supposed to be headlined by a Conor McGregor-Nate Diaz rematch(at Welterweight) but the Irishman’s recent game of Russian Roulette with UFC President Dana White ended with the match being nixed.
