MMA News: No 'Army' required. McGregor will surrender one of the titles on one condition
Conor McGregor is all about creating history. The UFC Featherweight Champion will be the second person to try and attempt to win titles in two weight divisions after BJ Penn, when he steps into the Octagon with lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205.
Dana White has stated that if McGregor does achieve the impossible, then he will have to let go of one of the titles. McGregor who was reluctant to the idea initially now has taken a softer stance on his earlier decision.
The Notorious one simply wants to engross himself in the glory before he makes up his mind.
“Let me look at the historic images we’re going to get on this night, me with these two belts. That’s what everyone should be excited about, this is history,” he said, according to Bjpenn.com. “Don’t be trying to take away the historic moment before I’ve even experienced it.”
Initially, McGregor had stated that the UFC would require an army to take the two belts from him if he does conquer the feat. But now he appears to be less stubborn on keeping both the belts.
“I’ll always listen to the correct business move and I’ll always do what is the correct move,” McGregor said. “But let me do it and let me go back and look at some pictures of me with two belts and let me embrace it for half-a-day.”
“Let me see the pictures on publications with a belt on each shoulder first,” McGregor said. “Let me go onto the side of that octagon and raise two world titles, what’s never been done before, before talking about stripping me. Let me get the f***ing things, let me do it.”
If he does beat Alvarez and hold both the titles in the cage, the Mystic Mac knows that his name will be emblazoned in the history books forever.
He has achieved this feat previously in Cage Warrior FC where he won and held the Featherweight and the Lightweight titles simultaneously. But soon he was offered a contract by the UFC before he got a chance to defend them.
McGregor will fight Alvarez for his UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC 205 in the Madison Square Garden, New York on November 12th of this year.
