What’s the story?

In a recent interview with TMZ, Stephen Espinoza weighed in on a potential Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor rematch.

Despite a rematch not officially announced, as of now, Espinoza asserted that he wouldn’t rule out the possibility of ‘Money Fight Part 2’.

In case you didn’t know…

Floyd Mayweather Jr.—one of the best boxers and biggest box-office attractions of all time—faced fellow PPV draw and reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor in a boxing match earlier this year.

The 12-round bout was conducted under pro boxing’s usual Marquess of Queensberry rules; and saw Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather defeat Conor McGregor by TKO.

The heart of the matter

Nevertheless, ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor having competed in the sport of professional boxing for the very first time; performed considerably well, and was lauded for the same by fans and experts alike.

That in turn, coupled with the banter of a potential rematch between Mr Money and Notorious One from Floyd’s camp has led to widespread speculation as regards the Money Fight taking place yet again in the near future. Besides, Mayweather seems to have kept himself in good shape, and continues to hone his skills in the gym, despite retiring—

Upon being probed about Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 2 likely happening soon, Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza explained that although there’s nothing concrete pertaining to the rematch happening right now, we mustn’t rule out the possibility of another match between them happening soon.

What’s next?

Conor McGregor was recently taken off the UFC 219 card, owing to his undisciplined actions at Bellator 187. However, according to CMac’s coach John Kavanaugh, the Irishman has resumed training for his next MMA fight and will likely unify the UFC Lightweight Championship by taking on Interim Champ Tony Ferguson.

Floyd Mayweather, however, stated that he has retired for good this time around.

Author’s take

Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather, the first time around, seemed to be nothing more than a fantasy matchup; before it actually came to fruition.

The same can be said for the rematch. There’s simply too much money to be made, and it’s rather common knowledge that apart from being great at fighting, May & Mac are excellent businessmen as well. Whether or not the rematch happens, only time will tell.
