MMA News: Anthony 'Showtime' Pettis wants Max Holloway next
It is without a doubt that we can declare the lightweight division as the most competitive and action packed in the UFC’s history. There has never been an ‘Anderson Silva’ in the division due to the birth of a new star or the resurrection of a mid-card level fighter.
We have seen the likes of Rafael Dos Anjos and Nate Diaz gain instant recognition after achieving commendable feats, such is the story of the 155-pounds division. But when a fighter like Anthony Pettis is struck with the misfortune of a losing streak, where do you think can he head next?
Opt to go down by a weight class or move up! However, Anthony Pettis must have sensed more money down at the 145-pounds division. If you are a UFC fan, you know what I’m talking about.
But Showtime won’t immediately pick a fight with the biggest Alpha dog of the division, not yet. He’s a man on a mission to prove that he has what it takes to survive in the featherweight division. He has already defeated fellow featherweight Charles Oliveira via submission, replacing him in the ranking at the number sixth spot in the UFC featherweight rankings.
The former UFC lightweight champion has picked a name who seems to be a perfect opponent, Max Holloway.
On an episode of The MMA Hour, Pettis expressed his desire for the fight by saying, “I think me and Max Holloway would be a great fight. He’s sitting there on the sidelines waiting for a title shot as well. He’s number three in the world as a featherweight and that’s the guy I would love to see myself fighting at 145 pounds. But then at 155 pounds, there are still good fights for me. too. I just have to sit down and figure it out.”
Max Holloway has an impressive streak of nine straight wins inside the Octagon and probably is one fight short of getting a crack at the title. That’s where the new star of the division Pettis seems to fit perfectly in the vacant seat. A title eliminator bout at the first ever UFC event at Madison Square Garden would do justice for everyone from the deserving duo to the fans.
