Naoya Inoue is a professional boxer who has held multiple titles in various weight classes in his professional career so far. Having turned into a professional competitor in the squared circle, Inoue spent his initial days on the amateur scene, where he was a successful competitor, winning a gold medal in the 21st Presidential Cup in Jakarta, Indonesia. He also came first in the Japanese Interscholastic Athletic Meeting in a year, besides being the recipient of several other accolades as an amateur. He made his professional boxing debut on October 2, 2012.

Naoya Inoue, after turning professional, quickly got his first title shot after winning his first three professional fights. He faced Ryoichi Taguchi on August 25, 2013, for the Japanese light flyweight title. He defeated Taguchi by a unanimous decision to win the belt. Inoue won the WBC light flyweight title by beating Adrian Hernandez on April 6, 2014, by a six-round TKO.
