Adriano Moraes reveals how he moved on from the Demetrious Johnson defeat

Adriano Moraes has proven several times the kind of resilient fighter that he is. Through his run in ONE Championship, the Brazilian has lost his world title and reclaimed it twice, proving that his legacy won’t be defined by a loss.

At ONE on Prime Video 1, his flyweight world title once again switched hands as he was defeated by Demetrious Johnson in their rematch from the year before. After pulling off the upset of the year in their first fight, Johnson got his revenge over Moraes the second time around.

In an interview with ONE Championship, Adriano Moraes spoke about how he dealt with the loss and how he will use it to come back even stronger as he has done in the past:

“After the defeat, I did what I always do, regardless of whether I won or lost the fight. I took time for myself to recover, to absorb everything that happened in the fight, and take some lessons. Then I went back to the academy to fix some mistakes, analyze some details of my game, and start all over again.”

In the biggest fight of his career, Moraes will face Demetrious Johnson for a third time at ONE on Prime Video 10. On ONE Championship’s US debut, their iconic trilogy will be decided as he looks to win back his flyweight title from one of the greatest of all time.

Adriano Moraes thankful to have trilogy with legendary Demetrious Johnson

As he prepares for the biggest fight of his career, Adriano Moraes is grateful for his immediate rematch against Demetrious Johnson.

There’s an old cliche in combat sports that a truly great fighter needs an equal rival in order to push themselves to new limits, and Moraes and Johnson have found that in each other.

Moraes had an up-and-down calendar year. Whilst ‘Mikinho’ kicked off 2022 with a defence of his ONE flyweight world title in March, he lost his crown to Johnson in August. The Brazilian and ‘Mighty Mouse’ each have one win against each other.

During an interview with ONE Championship, the 34-year-old former flyweight world champion had this to say about getting a chance to regain the belt:

“Making this trilogy means a lot to me. It’s an honor for me to be able to make history in MMA facing an athlete like Demetrious Johnson – an athlete I never imagined I would face, and now I’m going to fight him for the third time. It’s very rewarding to have this opportunity, and I’m very happy to be doing this trilogy against one of the best fighters in the world.”

Though Adriano Moraes is no stranger to the comeback trail, it doesn’t get much bigger than this. Demetrious Johnson’s legacy as one of the greatest fighters of all time is already assured.

If Moraes is able to defeat him at ONE on Prime Video 10, he will make history as the first man to beat ‘Mighty Mouse’ twice. ONE on Prime Video 10 will be available for North American Amazon Prime subscribers on May 5.
