After close brush with death, Sammy Jo Luxton confirms she'll attend UFC 308 to watch Ilia Topuria vs. Max Holloway

Sammy Jo Luxton has indicated she will be live and in attendance at the next UFC pay-per-view offering. UFC 308 is set to go down later this month with Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway participating in that show's main event.

Ilia Topuria vs. Max Holloway is a blockbuster battle for the UFC featherweight title. Topuria enters the fight as the current champion while the latter looks to add another reign as the 145-pound champion to his resume. Many are curious about this event and including, surging mixed martial artist Sammy Jo Luxton.

This is somewhat surprising news considering Luxton has dealt with serious health issues over the last few months. A hospitalization occurred after a severe case of sepsis caused Luxton to withdraw from her PFL Europe 3 fight in June against Lizzy Gevers. There were also issues with an infection that spread to her kidneys earlier this year.

In a recent Instagram story, Luxton confirmed she'll be at UFC 308 in the coming weeks:

"Finally told Dane we're going after keeping it a secret for 3 months. What a carddd."

Check out Sammy Jo Luxton's behind-the-scenes look at her debut into the sport below:

Sammy Jo Luxton and health difficulties in recent times

Sammy Jo Luxton is a talented Muay Thai fighter who has a MMA record of 2-0 with back-to-back first-round finishes. Health issues have made it difficult for her to compete consistently though as evidenced by a separate PFL fight last year falling out.

The 25-year-old was eyeing a spot on a PFL Paris card in August of last year before a cancer diagnosis derailed that idea.

That was to be her mixed martial arts debut but she would eventually have that neophyte moment with Fight KLB Series 1. There she defeated Jodie Gormley with a punch to close out the show in the opening frame of the fight. Her sophomore MMA effort was at FCC 37 in March of this year.

'Ghetto Cinderella' would take less than 20 seconds to end her second pro-MMA bout with a head kick against Agata Truskolaska. The native of England represents Manchester Top Team with her fights so far taking place in the flyweight division although she seems to be entertaining a possible strawweight foray based on some social media posting from Luxton.

Nothing has been discussed at this juncture as far as the next MMA fight for Luxton and if that will mark her long-awaited PFL Europe debut.
