Alex Pereira and Bas Rutten smash leg kicks to break records at Karate Combat
Alex Pereira and Bas Rutten are two fighters known for their striking prowess, and the pair recently competed to see who had the most powerful leg kick.
'Poatan' and 'El Guapo' were both in attendance at this weekend's Karate Combat 37 event. Bas Rutten as well as the new UFC middleweight champion, were invited to test the power of their kicks on a device called the PowerKube.
Several attempts were needed for both men to get adjusted to hitting the pad's sensor correctly. But once they found their mark, 'Poatan' and Rutten delivered incredibly powerful kicks. Pereira broke the standing record with a total of 90987, and Rutten was not far behind with an amazing score of 88388.
The footage was posted on Twitter by Karate Combat's account.
"Sensei @BasRutten still got it but @AlexPereiraUFC broke the leg kick record!"

Alex Pereira is revered mostly for his devastating left hook, but it appears that absorbing a leg kick from 'Poatan' could be equally damaging.
Israel Adesanya stated that his leg had been compromised during the early rounds of their fight at UFC 281. 'The Last Stylebender' said that his movement was increasingly affected as the bout progressed, which he felt contributed to his TKO loss.
Israel Adesanya declares "it's still war" with Alex Pereira during Glover Teixeira encounter at MMA Awards
Alex Pereira's coach Glover Teixeira was in attendance at the World MMA Awards last week. Teixeira was awarded the Fight of the Year award, alongside Jiri Prochazka, for the epic battle at UFC 275 earlier this year. Israel Adesanya also attended the awards alongside his training partner Dan Hooker, as their gym City Kickboxing was awarded the Best Gym of the Year.
'The Last Stylebender' crossed paths with Teixeira backstage, with both former champions sharing respectful words for one another. But Adesanya was sure to make it clear that the war raged on against his pupil Alex Pereira by saying:
"Like I said it's still war. We're not done, it's still war. You already know. It's always respect, but it's still war."

Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya share a long history, having fought three times across kickboxing and MMA. 'Poatan' has walked away victorious on all three occasions. But the overwhelming majority are calling for a rematch between the pair following their thrilling contest at UFC 281.
