Alex Pereira impresses former rival Jiri Prochazka with "patience and nonstop action" at UFC 307

Alex Pereira secured his third consecutive light heavyweight title defense at UFC 307, defeating Khalil Rountree Jr. via TKO with just 28 seconds remaining in the fourth round. This victory marks Pereira’s 12th career win and his fourth straight title bout.

Rountree Jr. started the fight aggressively, showcasing his speed and power. In the second round, he slipped under Pereira’s kick and landed a strong hook, but Pereira’s precision and control kept him ahead as the fight progressed.

By the fourth round, Pereira’s stamina and striking accuracy turned the tide decisively in his favor. He backed Rountree Jr. against the fence, unleashing a barrage of blows that left the latter defenseless and forced the referee to call the fight.

Following the win, Jiri Procházka, a former rival of Pereira’s, shared his thoughts on the fight via X, praising the Brazilian's patience and aggression in the later rounds:

"Just Gót back from Training and saw the main Fight #UFC307. Good taking action in First two rounds from Khalil. Then patience and nonstop action from Alex. Beautiful hunt. Back to the Training. Time to EVOLVE ⚡️⛰⚡️"

A look into the two championship fights between Alex Pereira and Jiri Procházka

Alex Pereira captured the vacant UFC light heavyweight championship on Nov. 11, 2023, by defeating former champion Jiri Procházka at UFC 295. Pereira won the fight via TKO in the second round, a performance that also earned him the Performance of the Night award. This victory made Pereira the ninth fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two different weight classes.

Pereira successfully defended his title for the first time against another former champion, Jamahal Hill, at UFC 300 on April 13, 2024. He secured a knockout victory in the first round with a powerful left hook.

On June 29, 2024, the Brazilian faced Procházka again at UFC 303 on short notice, replacing a scheduled main event between Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor due to McGregor’s injury. In this rematch, Pereira knocked Procházka down with a left hook just before the first round ended.

He continued to dominate in the second round, finishing the fight with a head kick followed by punches, solidifying his status as the reigning champion in the light heavyweight division.
