Alex Pereira suspects Israel Adesanya was injured against Dricus du Plessis due to lack of a certain move: "It was a good weapon"
UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has weighed in on the Dricus du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya matchup that headlined UFC 305 on Aug. 18. In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, 'Poatan' spoke about the title clash that took place at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.
The Brazilian shared that 'The Last Stylebender' might have been dealing with an injury in the fight. Pereira claimed that the volume of inside leg kicks thrown by Adesanya, an effective tool for the 35-year-old, was quite low.
'Poatan' added that Adesanya using mostly his hands to fight made the contest easier for the South African.
"I don't know how Adesanya was... Maybe Adesanya had an injury, I don't know. You could see he kicked very little. Things I saw, that inside kick of Adesanya is very good. Not everyone can do that, but he can do it very well. It was a good weapon, and he didn't continue doing that inside kick. Even Dricus said it bothered him, also bothered me. I said it before for the people who asked me. He didn't continue to do it. When he is only throwing hands, I think it's easier for the opponent to protect themselves, or to get out."
Check out Alex Pereira's comments on Dricus du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya below (0:50):
Adesanya and du Plessis fought for the middleweight throne in a grudge match. The bout was an exciting back-and-forth affair where both fighters had moments of success.
In the fourth round, 'Stillknocks' got a hold of Adesanya's back and proceeded to submit him with a rear-naked choke. With the victory, du Plessis became the first fighter to score a submission against 'The Last Stylebender'.
After UFC 305, Adesanya is now 1-3 in his last four UFC outings.
