Alexa Grasso points out Valentina Shevchenko's error that cost title fight, says relationship in "really weird" place
Alexa Grasso recently gave her take on her relationship with Valentina Shevchenko. Moreover, Grasso revealed what Shevchenko must do to regain her title and pointed out errors made by 'Bullet' in their previous fights.
Grasso and Shevchenko are set to co-headline UFC 306, dubbed 'Riyadh Season Noche UFC' in a women's flyweight title fight. The pay-per-view event will take place at The Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sept. 14, two days before Mexican Independence Day.
In their first meeting, which took place at UFC 285 in March last year, Grasso defeated Shevchenko via submission in the fourth round, capturing the UFC women's flyweight title. In their rematch at the first-ever Noche UFC event in September last year, the Mexican successfully defended her title against Shevchenko via split draw.
In a recent interview with MMA Junkie ahead of UFC 306, Grasso opened up about her relationship with Shevchenko, saying:
''We’ve been so many times together. All through the show. We had a lot of faceoffs. Again and again and again. I don’t know. It’s really, really weird.''
Grasso also discussed Shevchenko's fighting technique and what the 36-year-old needs to do to reclaim her title.
''She has a style where she waits too much. She’s just going back and back and back. I don’t think that’s a good (idea). If you want to get your belt back, I don’t think that’s the way to do that. If you want the belt you have to go for it. I would love that... But she has a fighting style where she’s going back, back, back – I’m not sure that’s going to work.'' [H/t: MMA Junkie]
Alexa Grasso has nothing but praise for Valentina Shevchenko
Alexa Grasso recently expressed her excitement for the Valentina Shevchenko fight at UFC 306. Notably, it will be the first women's trilogy match in UFC history and the first-ever title fight held at the Sphere.
In the aforementioned interview, Grasso acknowledged Shevchenko as a great fighter and claimed that their third fight would be a banger. She stated:
''She [Shevchenko] has done so much and is a really big inspiration to be in this stage and doing these things making history. We are doing something really cool. The first women’s trilogy. The first fight was amazing. The second fight was so, so amazing. You can expect the third fight is going to be a hell of a fight.”
