Alexa Grasso reacts to The Sphere's Noche UFC look, shares Plan B for title fight if Valentina Shevchenko says no
UFC flyweight champion Alexa Grasso has her sights set on defending her title at UFC 306, which takes place inside the new Las Vegas venue, The Sphere, on September 14. This highly anticipated fight would be part of the promotion's Noche UFC celebration for Mexican Independence Day weekend.
The September title bout would be the third encounter between Grasso and her coaching rival, Valentina Shevchenko. Their first fight resulted in a Grasso victory, while their rematch at last year's Noche UFC ended in a thrilling split draw. However, Shevchenko has expressed reservations about fighting on that specific date.
If Shevchenko withdraws, Grasso has a backup plan. Grasso indicated her willingness to face the in-form Manon Fiorot instead.
In a recent social media post, journalist John Morgan posted a clip of Grasso reacting to the unveiling of The Sphere's Noche UFC look.
Posting the clip, the journalist also wrote:
"If Valentina Shevchenko doesn’t want the date, Grasso says she’ll face Manon Fiorot, instead. #NocheUFC #UFC306"
Check out Alexa Grasso's reaction to the UFC Noche's announcement projected in The Sphere:
Fiorot, currently riding a seven-fight win streak, has been campaigning for a title shot but has been put on hold due to the Grasso-Shevchenko trilogy. The French fighter has even volunteered to step in as a late replacement if either Grasso or Shevchenko is unable to compete on short notice.
Alexa Grasso hopes to share UFC Noche spotlight with Conor McGregor
Alexa Grasso expressed her enthusiasm about potentially sharing the upcoming Noche UFC card with Conor McGregor at The Sphere.
In a recent interview, Grasso highlighted the potential for a massive event, playfully noting the similarities between the Irish and Mexican flags. McGregor's original fight for UFC 303 this past weekend fell through due to injury, but Grasso seems hopeful for a stacked Noche UFC card.
"Well, imagine that. I would love to share a card with Conor McGregor... It could be huge. I mean, our flags are kind of similar. It would be amazing to share a card with him."
