Alexander Hernandez details witnessing scary gun violence the morning of UFC 307, says teammate chased after shooter like "Sherlock Holmes"
Alexander Hernandez recently opened up about witnessing a horrific shooting incident ahead of UFC 307. Hernandez disclosed that his teammate chased down the person suspected of being involved in the gunshot incident while they were making their way back to the hotel following breakfast.
Hernandez squared off against Austin Hubbard in a lightweight bout at UFC 307 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He entered the bout with a two-fight losing streak. In his last octagon outing at UFC Vegas 90, Hernandez took on Damon Jackson, losing the fight via split decision. Meanwhile, Hubbard was coming off a unanimous decision win against Michal Figlak at UFC Vegas 91.
Hubbard used leg kicks on his opponent to gain control of the fight right away. Nevertheless, he was unable to do any harm since Hernandez was finding his rhythm when striking.
Hernandez was starting to cause trouble for Hubbard with his accurate strikes and his excellent takedown defense in the second round. 'The Great Ape' fought off another takedown attempt in the third round and engaged in a fiery exchange with Hubbard to end the fight. The bout lasted 15 minutes and Hernandez was declared the winner via split decision.
During his post-fight press conference, Hernandez shared a scary shooting incident prior to UFC 307 and how his teammate Brandon Royval went after the alleged shooter.
''Walking home back to the hotel, we turn this corner and we hear like five shots rattle off and Brandon [Royval] loves to yell gunshots, I'm like, it could be fu**ing anything...we stopped, about to order the lift and these guys come panting like running past us...turns out that was the guy with the gun...He's [Royval] fu**ing on the prow like Sherlock Holmes and he's chasing after him.''
