Alexander Volkanovski details fight camp preparation for Islam Makhachev fight at UFC 284
UFC featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski recently revealed the game plan for his upcoming fight against Islam Makhachev.
Volkanovski is all set to lock horns with lightweight king Islam Makhachev at the main event of UFC 284. The event is scheduled for February 12 at the RAC Arena in Perth. In this fight, 'The Great' will attempt to attain the status of a double champ and establish his supremacy over two divisions of the UFC.
In a recent appearance on Michael Bisping's Believe You Me podcast, Volkanovski revealed that he has been preparing hard to tackle Islam Makhachev's elite wrestling skills. The Australian also explained how his team is paying attention to every small detail that will give 'The Great' an advantage over his Dagestani opponent.
Speaking about his preparations ahead of UFC 284, the current featherweight champ said:
"Islam is really good at pinning and holding people down and things like that. So, we're obviously breaking down a lot of their movements and things they like, techniques they like to do and the way they go about their control which is usually a little bit different to your normal Jiu-Jitsu guys and all that."
He further added:
"We are understanding why all the details, the little details that are going to obviously give us a upper hand and things like that...Getting me fully fatigued and then still working out and I'm still so hard to hold down that's what people really don't understand. So, again people are going to go, "Yeah, it's different to all this." Okay I'll show you."

Alexander Volkanovski will struggle against Islam Makhachev due to height disadvantage, claims AJ McKee
In an interview with Sportskeeda MMA's Giancarlo Aulino, former Bellator featherweight champion AJ McKee expressed his opinion on the upcoming lightweight title battle between Alexander Volkanovski and Islam Makhachev at UFC 284.
McKee stated in the interview that the Australian's shorter stature could be an issue against the Dagestani as he commented:
"I'm not quite sure. He's [Volkanovski] kind of a small guy though. You know what I mean? So I think he's gonna struggle a bit with the range and what not. I mean post rugby career we know we can gain the weight, we know he can become a big boy but he's not gonna get taller. He's not gonna get bigger. You know what I mean? So I think that's gonna be a big factor when stepping in front of these '55ers."
