Alexander Volkanovski gets personal about his moment of mercy against 'The Korean Zombie'

The UFC 273 meeting between Alexander Volkanovski and 'The Korean Zombie' Chan Sung Jung was largely a one-sided affair. The featherweight champion's overwhelming power and slick striking proved too much for the Korean national, who was outstruck 138-48 during the contest.

Referee Herb Dean finally called a stop to the contest at 45 seconds of the fourth round. However, in a recent interview with The AllStar, the featherweight champion revealed that he almost felt bad for 'The Korean Zombie' towards the end:

"We are fighters, we are warriors. You're not going to sit there and be like, just tap on the floor in between the rounds [or] you tell your coaches that you are done. You are not going to do that. There is no way 'Korean Zombie' is going to do that... but I could see it in his eyes, even though he was not trying to do that, I could see it in his eyes that he was done... I felt bad at that stage because I felt like the ref could've just been like, 'That's it.'"

Volkaovski added that the referee could've stopped the contest after the third round, as Jung was clearly defeated by that point:

"Even when he was sitting there [in between rounds three and four]... not that he didn't want to be there, but he was like, 'There is nothing I can do.' So I felt like he looked defeated [but] the ref didn't give it to him."

In the same interview, Alexander Volkanovski predicted that most of the fight is going to take place on the feet. The Australian boldly claimed that even if the sambo maestro manages to take him down, he will get right back up:

"I think it's going to be more of a stand-up battle. Obviously, he's going to shoot earlier... Even if you do get me down, I'm going to get up. It's going to be on the feet... I feel like I'm going to catch him [coming] in because I know I want to capitalize on the feet... and that's why I feel like I'll get a finish... So I feel like I'm getting the finish, believe it or not."
