Alexander Volkanovski will officially fight Islam Makhachev for the lightweight world championship at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia.

As soon as UFC 284 was announced for Australia, MMA fans anticipated Volkanovski to be on the fight card. Alexander Volkanovski must have known before the announcement that his fight at UFC 284 was official. This is especially considering his confidence in the matchup materializing during UFC 281 fight week. The featherweight champion kept his first reaction simple by saying this on his Instagram story:

Volkanovski’s lightweight title fight against Islam Makhachev has massive stakes involved. ‘The Great’ can further his legacy by becoming a two-division champion.
