Du Plessis is coming off a solid win over Darren Till via third-round submission at UFC 282, and the South African middleweight also recently shared his take on the upcoming title fight between the two champions.

Speaking on James Lynch's YouTube channel, 'Stillknocks' could not pick a winner confidently but outlined the challenges that Alexander Volkanovski would pose to Islam Makhachev:

"If you look at the form that Islam Makhachev looked at in his last fight, it was immaculate. From striking to wrestling and obviously grappling, looked out of this world... But when it comes to the striking of Alexander Volkanovski, he outstrikes Max Holloway. So good luck competing with that... I'm going 50-50 on that one."

The challenger Alexander Volkanovski is confident in his ability to remain calm even if Islam Makhachev manages to take him down.

During a recent appearance on Michael Bisping's Believe You Me podcast, 'The Great' claimed that he wasn't going to panic even if the sambo savant took him down during the fight:

“If the fight doesn’t go there, that’s a bonus, but I need to be prepared and ready for if it... There’s a good chance he might get the takedown... I won’t be surprised if he doesn’t... But if it does, I guarantee you this: I’m gonna be composed, I’m gonna be calm and I’m gonna be fighting my a** off to get back to my feet... You won’t see me lose composure."
