Ali Abdelaziz claims Henry Cejudo is the still the UFC bantamweight and flyweight king: "Never lost his belt"
Henry Cejudo is only the fourth fighter in UFC history to hold titles from two separate divisions simultaneously. The former bantamweight and flyweight champion held both belts together briefly and defended each of them once.
Cejudo's manager Ali Abdelaziz believes his retired client is still the best in both divisions and has never lost either championship. The Dominance MMA founder tweeted:
"@HenryCejudo he is the current bantamweight champion of the world and flyweight champion never lost his belt beat Dominick Cruz, TJ, Dillashaw, Demetrious Johnson nobody ever did that @espn @danawhite"
Abdelaziz tagged Dana White and mentioned Cejudo's famous wins over former champions Dominick Cruz, T.J. Dillashaw, and Demetrious Johnson. All three victories were championship fights and came within the span of four outings between 2018 and 2020.
Check out Abdelaziz's tweet:
Henry Cejudo first vacated the flyweight title after defending it against Dillashaw. He was inactive for a prolonged period and agreed to relinquish the title to focus on the bantamweight division.
On his return, 'Triple C' successfully defended the bantamweight championship against Dominick Cruz via knockout at UFC 249. He announced his retirement right after the fight, and his bantamweight title was declared vacant soon after.
The 2008 Olympic gold medalist did not lose either of his belts to a challenger and vacated them of his own volition. He retired while on a six-fight winning streak, with four championship bouts during the run.
Dana White suggests Henry Cejudo as Aljamain Sterling's next opponent
Reports of a Henry Cejudo return have circulated for a while now, with the former champion re-entering the USADA testing pool this past May with the intent to return to the octagon.
UFC president Dana White suggested that Cejudo might make his return as Aljamain Sterling's next challenger for the bantamweight belt. During the UFC 280 post-fight press conference, White said:
“What about Henry Cejudo? That work? You like that? You know, Henry’s been out there talking and he wants to come back and he wants to, you know, and I think ... how long has he been back in the USADA pool? Anyone know how long he’s been back in the USADA pool? Six months? Yeah, so you know, he could fight. So maybe you do him and Aljamain Sterling next.”
White followed up with some skepticism and reiterated that he was simply suggesting a potential matchup:
“Again, everybody’s gonna write that I said that’s the next fight, that’s what’s gonna be written. But I’m just saying that would be a good fight for him.”
