Ali Abdelaziz makes bold claim about Leon Edwards vs. Belal Muhammad title fight: "He will eat this guy like a sandwich"
Ali Abdelaziz believes Belal Muhammad will outshine Leon Edwards in their upcoming title fight. Three years after their first encounter resulted in a No Contest, Muhammad will attempt to dethrone Edwards and walk away with the welterweight title in the UFC 304 main event on July 27.
While both men have significantly improved over the last few years and have a combined 23-fight unbeaten streak, Abdelaziz feels Muhammad will score a stoppage win over Edwards within three rounds.
Abdelaziz wrote on X:
“[Belal Muhammad] will stop Leon Edwards under three rounds.”
A fan responded to Abdelaziz's post, aiming a shot at Muhammad for his apparent lack of finishing ability:
“Belal can't finish a sandwich.”
Abdelaziz responded:
“He will eat this guy [Edwards] like a sandwich. Don't worry, just buy the pay-per-view.”
Despite being two of the most skilled fighters in the welterweight division, Muhammad and Edwards have been criticized for their tendency to win fights on the scorecards. The duo have a combined four finishes in their 20 most recent fights.
Edwards' highlight reel KO win over Kamaru Usman seems to have changed the perception significantly. Meanwhile, Muhammad has received a lot of fan backlash for putting on what some perceive to be 'boring fights'.
Leon Edwards is struggling to understand the source of Belal Muhammad's "confidence, arrogance, and entitlement"
Belal Muhammad has aggressively campaigned for a title shot in recent times and has been at odds with Leon Edwards due to their history. The duo were briefly linked to headline the milestone UFC 300 event but the fight could not materialize at the time.
Edwards' manager, Tim Simpson, claimed that the fight was not booked because it was not the "marquee" fight the UFC brass was looking to put together. Muhammad insulted Edwards and his team in a fiery X post, presumably to show disagreement with Simpson's statement.
Responding to the post during his appearance on The MMA Hour, Edwards said:
"I feel like he needs to calm down. I don't understand where his confidence is coming from. He has improved since we last fought. But I don't get the confidence, the arrogance, and entitlement. Like, relax! I went for the same, kind of longer road than he did. I held it out and got it done."
