Aliff Sor Dechapan breaks down his latest victory against former World Title challenger Walter Goncalves
20-year-old Muay Thai star Aliff Sor Dechapan captured the biggest win of his young career by outclassing former ONE flyweight Muay Thai world championship challenger Walter Goncalves at ONE 169: Malykhin vs. 'Reug Reug' this past Friday, Nov. 8. In an interview with ONE, the Sor Dechapan product said about his latest outing inside the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand:
"In the ring, I didn't think Walter would come at me. He had a great counter-attack, which made me fight off-plan. I planned to come at him, but he came at me instead."
He added:
"In rounds 1-2, I thought I did well. In round 3, I had an accident and got hit by his knee again, which made me a bit dizzy. But when the round ended, I was confident that I would win because I did better in the first two rounds."
In one of the most action-packed fights of the marquee event, Aliff wisely utilized his height and reach advantage to prevent 'Iron Hands' from landing his power shots.
While the Thai-Malaysian absorbed some damage from Goncalves, Aliff's nonstop aggression led to the unanimous decision win to earn his sixth victory under the ONE banner.
Aliff correctly predicted Walter Goncalves' strategy at ONE 169
Aliff showcased how much he had prepared for his strawweight Muay Thai clash with Walter Goncalves by taking note of the Brazilian's tendencies. In an interview with ONE ahead of ONE 169, Aliff stated:
"He has a habit of punching and then backing away. I got that from his fight with heavy-hitter Thongpoon [PK Saenchai]. I believe he will be the one to come to me because he'll think I'm weaker than him."
