Aljamain Sterling explains why his fight with Henry Cejudo hasn't been made official
Aljamain Sterling addressed his upcoming fight with Henry Cejudo and explained what has led to negotiations being delayed.
Sterling uploaded a video to his YouTube channel, where he addressed the rumored title fight against Cejudo. He mentioned that a bicep injury has been a factor in his decision-making, saying:
"It's whether or not I could compete with this torn bicep again. Going through another training camp with a torn bicep against a guy whose stronger in the wrestling department, who will use his wrestling more." {16:33 - 16:46}
'Funkmaster' also brought up that the former two-division UFC champion's fighting style is different from his previous opponents. With that in mind, he mentioned that it is also a reason why he doesn't want to fight while having a compromised bicep, saying:
"I'm going to need this bicep to compete at a hundred percent. And I don't take Henry Cejudo lightly. Even though I did lay out all the ways that I could win and do that for 25 minutes, gotta make sure I'm in shape. And it's hard to get in shape when I have this thing compromising me the entire time." {17:03 - 17:20}
Cejudo recently revealed that the promotion was targeting UFC 285 for his title fight against Sterling. The official announcement will thus come down to whether the champion feels he will be close to a hundred percent by then.
